SCS Safety Exam
Purpose:
Prior to beginning work as an employee in a SCS Laboratory (ie; research assistant, undergraduate research assistant, teaching assistant, etc.) you are required to read the School of Chemical Sciences Chemical Hygiene Plan and pass the SCS Safety Exam. The purpose of this requirement is to provide necessary safety information and confirm that employees understand this information.Process:
The exam is accessed through https://compass.uiuc.edu/To login, use your NetID and NetID password. You will then be taken to your compass course menu. To take the exam, select the SCS Safety Exam link. New graduate students will automatically be entered into the exam roster. Graduate students that come to the university in the middle of a semester, laboratory employees, or undergraduate students working in a research group should contact Elizabeth Schmidt at to be entered into the exam roster.
The exam consists of 70 questions. It is an open book exam based on the School of Chemical Sciences Chemical Hygiene Plan. This document will appear as a link on the opening web page. A score of 650 out of 700 is required to pass this exam. The exam may be taken as many times as needed to achieve this score.
After completion of the safety exam students/employees are required to print and complete the "Laboratory Safety Training Check List". This form is also available on the opening page of this website. Once completed, the form should be returned to Elizabeth Schmidt, Box 21-1 Noyes Lab, MC-712.
